NAPPI is about recovery.

NAPPI equals Non-Abusive Psychological and Physical Intervention.

It is no accident that the word "psychological" appears before the word "physical" in NAPPI's name. Early in NAPPI's evolution, our founder, Kurk Lalemand, and his team understood that in order to support lasting recovery among service recipients with traumatic histories, they would need to widen the scope of their work beyond the safe and humane tools they had created for managing acute physical behavior. They would shine their clinical light on prevention as the most promising approach to healing.

The NAPPI Team thus created the Lalemand Green Behavior Scale, a comprehensive guide that focuses attention on the importance of living a balanced life where productivity, community, family, and high quality relaxation reduce stress and prevent violence.  When it comes to long-term recovery, NAPPI's clinical approach is one that recognizes the role that trauma has played in a person's life, and applies best practices of Trauma Informed Care and Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) using the NAPPI Green Scale as a guide. Helping an individual recognize triggers and coping skills enables them to make behavior changes that lead to a more balanced and fulfilling life.

When an organization embraces the NAPPI Green Scale, a fundamental change takes place on many levels. Not only is there less need for high-risk physical interventions, but  staff and service recipients understand and share an appreciation of what it means to live "green" the "NAPPI way." An environment of continuous learning evolves. Relationships take precedence over conflict, and cooperation naturally follows when there is mutual respect.
